The difference between Tarot and Oracle cards?
I’m thinking of getting a tarot or oracle card deck but I’m not really sure of the difference. I’m new to this so I don’t know what the different suits in Tarot are and how you’re supposed to do a reading or the spreads and things like that. Any help would be appreciated!

Oracle cards are independent systems, you have to relearn each oracle card meaning with each new oracle deck you purchase. So the Spirit Cards are a different system than the Angel Cards, which are a different system than the others, and they all have different number of cards.

Tarot cards follow a system, and all decks have 78 cards. So all the Rider Waite style decks all use the same meanings, regardless of what the images look like. All the Thoth type decks use the same Thoth meanings. All the Marseille type decks use the Marseille meanings. You don’t have to relearn the system. If you buy a Rider Waite deck it will use the same meanings as the Robin Wood Tarot, the Aquarian Tarot, the Mary Hanson Roberts Tarot, the Gaia Tarot, etc.

How do you choose a tarot deck?
I don’t practice witchcraft, but I have a Wiccan friend, so I’m reading a book about Wicca and other kinds of Witchcraft. It’s very interesting ^^
Anyway, I am very interested in the art of tarot, and want to buy a full deck (major and minor arcana_ but have been told that there are thousands of decks available… How do I choose one?
Preferrably I am appalled by the hate in some of these comments. I'm not scared of your hell; I had legitimate questions about a legitimate religion.

1) Go to the store.
2) Look at the various tarot decks
3) Say, “Oooo, pretty!”
4) Then buy that one

It’s the same as buying any other deck of cards. Really, it is just a deck of cards with pretty pictures. Just choose the one you think is prettiest.

Buy a Crowley Thoth deck. I mean, tarot is BS, but that’s what I would do. I actually have the large set on my mantle. It’s a great conversation piece and the artwork it cool, too. Kind of William Blake-ish.
